A second teenager has been charged in the fatal stabbing of a 70-year-old Kansas City woman.

A 16-year-old, whose name was not released, has been charged in juvenile court with second-degree murder and first-degree burglary in the St. Patrick’s Day death of Marise Barrett, according to Jackson County court officials.

He is being held at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center. A hearing to determine if he should be prosecuted as an adult is scheduled for April 3.

Another teen, Kevin J. Brewer, 17, was charged Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court with second-degree murder, first-degree burglary and two counts of armed criminal action. He is being held in the county jail.

Barrett was stabbed 32 times early Sunday inside her residence in the 4000 block of East 33rd Street.

The 16-year-old formerly lived at the residence and was angry with Barrett for ordering him to move out in January, according to court documents filed in Brewer’s case.

A cellphone stolen from Barrett led police to Brewer, according to the court documents.
