Body found in submerged vehicle near Harrisonville

Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered a body inside a submerged vehicle today.

The discovery was made about 1 p.m. as the deputies were removing the vehicle from the Bittern Bottoms Conservation Area southwest of Harrisonville.

Investigators have not identified the victim and have not determined the nature of the death. The Kansas City Crime Lab has been called in to assist.

The area contains wetlands and forest, including a 20-acre marsh.
