Parades mean KC street closures, police presence

Updated: 2013-03-16T04:29:24Z

St. Patrick’s Day parades will require street closures Saturday afternoon in Brookside and Sunday in midtown.

The Brookside parade is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Road closings are roughly in the area from Meyer Boulevard to 63rd Street, between Wornall Road and Main Street.

Police say cars parked on the street near the staging area for the midtown parade must be removed by 4 a.m. Sunday. That area is Linwood Boulevard from Main Street to Pennsylvania Avenue and Broadway from 31st Street to Linwood.

Broadway will be closed to traffic from 31st to 47th streets at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The parade starts at 11 a.m. and will last about two hours, heading south on Broadway.

Bus routes will also be affected both days. Call 816-221-0660 on Saturday or go to www.kcata.org for details.

Nearly 200 uniformed police officers will be assigned to the parade Sunday. Undercover detectives will enforce liquor laws. Cameras have been installed along the route.
