Feds seek to medicate KCI fake-bomb suspect for trial

Federal prosecutors are seeking permission to forcibly medicate a Pennsylvania man accused of trying to bring fake explosives through a security checkpoint at Kansas City International Airport.

A judge has determined that 48-year-old Anthony Falco Jr. is not competent to stand trial. But a forensic evaluation determined he is not a danger to himself or others, meaning he does not meet the criteria for mental commitment.

Falco, of East Petersburg, Pa., has schizophrenia. His mother told investigators after his arrest on Sept. 11, 2011, that he had stopped taking his medication.

Falco was scheduled for a hearing Thursday in Kansas City, where a judge will consider whether he should be forcibly medicated to restore competency to stand trial.
