Closures will disrupt traffic at I-35 and I-435 in Joco

Updated: 2013-03-06T23:57:04Z

Motorists who use Interstates 35 and 435 in Johnson County should prepare to be inconvenienced this weekend.

Starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, the Kansas Department of Transportation plans an overnight closure of the ramps to southbound I-35 from both westbound and eastbound I-435. Crews will do sawing and concrete repair work before reopening the ramps at 5 a.m. Friday.

The same closures resume at 8 p.m. Friday and will last the entire weekend, until 5 a.m. Monday. In addition, southbound I-35 will be restricted to two through lanes from Pflumm Road to 111th Street.

The detour will take I-435 drivers north on I-35 to 95th Street, where they can exit and then re-enter I-35 in the southbound lanes. Major delays are expected, and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
