Driver dies of injuries suffered in Overland Park wreck

A Texas man has died of injuries suffered late Monday in a rear-end crash in Overland Park.

Police today identified the victim as Carson R. Norris, 21, of El Paso.

Witnesses said Norris was driving north in the 10400 block of Metcalf Avenue about 10:45 p.m. when his Blue Honda CR-V was rear ended by a speeding GMC pickup. Norris’s female passenger also was injured and taken to a hospital.

No one in the pickup was hurt. The driver of the pickup, 23-year-old Zachary Trent Wempe of Olathe, was charged with involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence and with aggravated battery. He was released on a $100,000 surety bond.
