Updated: 2013-03-06T18:18:35Z

Authorities evacuated the residents in 10 homes in rural Clay County today after a tanker truck overturned, spilling about 50 gallons of propane onto the roadway.

The single-vehicle accident was reported about 10:30 a.m. on Route MM, just west of Cameron Road near Holt. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital after suffering minor cuts to his head. The tanker was carrying 2,400 gallons of propane. A hazardous materials team arrived and quickly sealed the leak, said Lt. Will Akin with the Clay County Sheriff’s office.

Authorities closed the roadway and evacuated residents from nearby homes as a precaution, Akin said. The roadway should reopen later this afternoon, he said.
