MidAmerica women win Heart title

MidAmerica Nazarene’s women’s basketball team won the Heart of America Conference tournament title game Tuesday, beating Central Methodist 77-71 in Olathe.

But the Pioneers’ hope for a sweep ended when the Mid America men’s team fell at Evangel 88-81.

• Columbia College won the American Midwest Conference tournament title with a 77-63 win over Park at home.

Columbia , 33-0,is expected to be the top seed in the NAIA Division I men’s tournament, which starts March 13 at Municipal Auditorium. Pairings will be announced today.

• The No. 1-ranked Johnson County Community College women’s team shot a team-record 89 percent from the field in the second half and cruised to a 116-37 victory over Hesston in the semifinals of the Region VI D-II tournament. JCCC will face Highland in the championship game Saturday in Park City, Kan. The Cavaliers have won 13 straight Region VI D-II women’s basketball titles.
