KC police ID pedestrian killed on Independence Avenue

Kansas City police today identified a man fatally run over on Independence Avenue near Cypress Avenue on Monday night as Luis Carlos Robledo-Sanchez, 52.

Robledo-Sanchez was walking east in the center of the outside westbound traffic lane when he tripped, fell or decided to lie down in the road. Police believe he may have been intoxicated.

A westbound vehicle swerved to avoid Robledo-Sanchez, but a second vehicle could not avoid running over him. That driver stopped and cooperated with police.

Police aren’t sure where Robledo-Sanchez was going, but he lived in the area and had relatives who lived nearby. The sidewalks had been cleared of snow in the immediate area, so police aren’t sure why he was in the street.
