Ray-Pec bus slides into ditch

Updated: 2013-03-04T23:12:06Z

A bus carrying about 30 Raymore-Peculiar East Middle School students was involved in an accident this afternoon in Raymore.

The accident occurred on Missouri 58 near Ward Road, just east of the school, as bus No. 46, operated by Apple Bus, slid into the ditch. Because the bus came to rest against a snowbank, students had to be extricated through windows.

Raymore-Peculiar School District Spokeswoman Michele Stidham and Raymore Police Capt. Jim Wilson reported that no students were injured.

The driver of the bus was transported to an hospital as a precaution for non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

The Raymore Police Department, South Metro Fire Protection District, Cass County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol responded to the accident.

School district officials and middle school administrators also responded, and another bus was dispatched to take students home.
