Bradshaw, 19, apparently had been living in the tent behind 8301 N. Church Road near Liberty for four or five months, police said. He had a mental illness, and relatives had tried to help him, police said.
Investigators said they did not know the cause of death, but foul play was not suspected. They were awaiting the results of toxicology tests.
Police were called to the tent about 2 a.m. Wednesday by someone who saw the tent amid the snow and trees. Officers noted there were no footprints in the snow outside the tent. They unzipped the tent and found Bradshaw’s body. They also found in the tent a yellow bottle of Heet, which often is used by homeless people and backpackers as fuel for alcohol stoves.
The tent was visible from nearby Interstate 35, police said.
Bradshaw’s mother died one day before his 11th birthday. He is survived by his father, stepmother, two sisters and other relatives, according to his obituary in Friday’s Kansas City Star.
