Nathan Butler

SCHOOL: Leavenworth

YEAR: Senior

SPORT: Wrestling

On the heels of Class 6A wrestling titles at 215 pounds as a sophomore and 220 as a junior, Butler captured the Class 5A 285-pound championship to become the first three-time state champion in Pioneers’ history. Butler, who signed with Stanford in November, finished the season 44-0 after topping Topeka-Seaman senior Dylan Hall 9-2 in the title bout.

Katie Carter

SCHOOL: Sumner Academy

YEAR: Senior

SPORT: Bowling

Carter wasn’t quite able to propel the Sabres to state as a team, but her 643 series Sunday at the Leavenworth Class 5-1A regional at Crown Lanes was good enough for individual gold-medal honors. Carter, who finished third at state as a sophomore and junior, started slowly with a 169 game, but bounced back to shoot 257 and 217 en route to first place.
