A look at Sporting KC's roster (as of right now)

The Kansas City Star

Things, as always, are subject to change (sometimes rather quickly) at this time of year. But, with just a few days until Sporting Kansas City takes the field against the Philadelphia Union (Saturday, 3 p.m.) here's the roster as it currently stands.

There are 27 players on the roster; leaving just three open spots. As of Saturday, there were still three non-roster trialists with the team: fullback Mechack Jerome, midfielder Christian Duke and midfielder Adama Mbengue. (I think goalkeeper Steve Spangler -- who trained with KC last year -- was with the team in Orlando as well.)

Duke, a Shawnee Mission South grad, was drafted by KC in the Supplemental draft and has been with the team since mid-January. Jerome and Mbengue are both with KC's USL-Pro affiliate Orlando City.

I fully expect Kansas City to sign Duke* and Jerome as midfield and right-back cover, respectively, at some point.

*A hunch tells me that if Duke had completed the required training work with the SKC Juniors during college, he'd have been a home-grown player.

Without including them (yet) and with Kamara off the active roster (for now), here's how the team pans out.
