While Kansas City was getting smacked by a huge winter storm on Thursday, the Royals were up early for photo day and a quick workout. (If it makes you feel any better, it was cold for Arizona on Thursday morning -- around 36 degrees.) As California boy Mike Moustakas said as he walked outside for his photo, "This is NOT California weather."

Royals up early in chilly Arizona

The players had to report by 7 a.m. to shoot promotional video for Fox and get their official team photos taken. Several of the big-name players -- Billy Butler, Alex Gordon and James Shields, just to name a few -- also posed for banners that will go up around Kansas City.
Reliever Everett Teaford, who loves to talk, tell stories and is definitely a morning person, got in trouble with Aaron Crow and Greg Holland as he chatted up one photographer. "Everett, shut up so we can get this done," said Crow.
After the photos, it was time for quick BP and a little fielding work. Today is a shorter day as the Royals prepare for their first game of the spring season on Friday against complex neighbor Texas.
