House of Elan’s owner John Verstraete saw his building destroyed in Tuesday’s blast that also claimed next-door neighbor JJ’s. Now he’s on the search for a yellow labrador he considers his own.

Employees of the spa safely escaped the blast on the west side of the Country Club Plaza, but once outside the wailing sirens had Verstraete’s black lab Zeus running back into the burning building. While Zeus was quickly rescued by his owner, the black lab’s s brother, Perceus, took off down 48th Street and is still on the run.

“We’re out looking for him now,” Verstraete said this afternoon.

The two-and-a-half year old labradors practically grew up in Verstraete’s medical business. Office manager Cisco Sherman got Perceus first, but Verstraete took one look and then adopted his brother. When Sherman goes out of town, Verstraete takes care of Perceus and vice versa.

“So I call him my dog, too,” Verstraete said.
