Grandview authorities have cited a 23-year-old father with driving while intoxicated after he allegedly led police on a 100 mph chase and abandoned his young son in a moving car unrestrained.
Byron Williams also was cited for other traffic violations connected to the early Sunday incident, which remains under investigation, police said.
Police said they spotted Williams in a red 2003 Dodge Stratus speeding south on the West Frontage Road south of Blue Ridge Boulevard.
When the officer tried to stop the car, Williams allegedly took the ramp to southbound Interstate 49 and accelerated to more than 100 mph. The vehicle exited at East 140th Street and sped down Frontage Road. Police said they stopped chasing when it ran a red light at 140th Street.
Officers spotted the Stratus rolling slowly in the 14400 block of the Frontage Road. After the car rolled to a stop, an officer found the 2-year-old boy inside who was not in a car seat or restrained by a seatbelt.
Police found Williams hiding in waist-deep water of a nearby creek. He was treated for hypothermia.
