OK, this is just ... awesome.

Former Royals outfielder and Blue Springs High School graduate Brian McRae is set to appear in a horror movie called “Gravedigger.”

Couldn't be that Brian McRae, right? The International Movie Database (imdb.com) cast list includes that McRae, who played for the Royals from 1990-94, before going to the Cubs, Mets, Rockies and Blue Jays.

McRae won’t be the only former major leaguer in the flick. Billy Sample, who played seven of his nine seasons in the majors with the Texas Rangers, will star as mayor Benjamin Barnes. Jim Leyritz, who spent nine of his 11 seasons in the major leagues with the Yankees, also has a part in the movie.

McRae will play Billy Randolph, who doesn’t appear to be the guy actually digging the graves and exacting his own form of justice.

Save the snide jokes about the Royals being a horror show on their own the last few years, because here’s the synopsis of the movie, which is scheduled to be released this year:

“A vigilante serial killer is stalking, killing and burying those he has judged guilty and anyone in this corrupt town could be next! Murder, Mayhem, Blood, Deception & NO way out are a few ways to describe this disturbing new heart pounding thrill ride.”

Other cast members apparently include Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal of Guns N’ Roses, a couple of former “Survivor” contestants, and Gregg Valentino, who was on TLC’s “The Man Whose Arms Exploded.”

Who knows, it could surprise you.

It’s worth nothing that acting is not McRae’s day job. In fact, he just joined the Park University baseball staff, and the Pirates couldn't be happier.

"This is an incredible addition to our baseball staff," Park University athletic director Claude English said in a news release. "This is like Warren Buffett spending time with a business major. Any time you have the ability to bring in someone that's spent 10 years at the highest level, you've done something special for your student-athletes."

McRae appeared in 1,354 major-league games over 10 seasons with 58 triples, 103 home runs, 532 RBIs and 196 stolen bases. His slash lines: .261/.331/.396.

"Brian brings a lot of credibility to our program," head coach Cary Lundy said in a news release. "He played the game the right way and we think he'll be able to make an immediate impact on our guys. He was a great baserunner and he's seen pitching at the highest level of this game. His main responsibilities will be hitting and baserunning, and obviously he's got a lot of knowledge to lend to our outfielders. He lived their dream, and our guys will get something out of this. He knows how to teach the game."

Last year, McRae managed the Morehead City (N.C.) Marlins of the Coastal Plains League, a collegiate wood-bat summer league.
