A Grandview man is charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer after he allegedly crashed into an ambulance and injured a firefighter and a paramedic.
Matthew L. Stockton, 23, allegedly was southbound on U.S. 71 about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, when it was blocked at 85th Street by rescuers who had responded to an earlier wreck. According to court documents, the rescuers saw Stockton’s car headed toward them on the snowy highway, realized he was not going to stop and tried to get out of the way.
Stockton allegedly crashed into an ambulance that had its emergency lights flashing, knocking it into the pickup that had crashed earlier. A paramedic was pinned in the pickup door and a firefighter was knocked down.
Police said that Stockton, who allegedly had a blood alcohol level of .194, told them he had been at a friend’s house but he had to leave because her boyfriend was on his way home.
