Fire destroyed a Lee’s Summit house early today while the family that lived there was away.
A neighbor called 911 at 3:19 a.m. to report that fire had engulfed the house in the 400 block of S.W. Seagull Street.
Firefighters saw that the family’s vehicles were gone and none of the residents were outside, so they attacked the fire from outside. Part of the home collapsed and the blaze left the rest of the structure unstable. The fire was under control by 3:54 a.m.
Officials said the residents were visiting relatives.
Investigators did not immediately know what caused the fire.
