Frankamp breaks Ellis’ record

— Kansas signee Conner Frankamp from Wichita North broke Perry Ellis’ all-time scoring record for the Wichita City League on Friday night.

Frankamp scored 37 points in a 52-40 win over visiting Bishop Carroll, giving him 2,233 point and surpassing the 2,231 points of Ellis, a Kansas freshman.

A jumper with 45 seconds left gave Frankamp the record.

Frankamp suffered a concussion Jan. 19 and missed two games, both North losses. In his seven games since his return, Frankamp has scored 29, 37, 48, 43, 31, 40 and 37 points.

Frankamp admitted to being especially motivated after not being selected a McDonald’s All-American on Thursday, a decision Carroll coach Lonnie Lollar Lollar couldn’t understand.

“It’s kind of hard to think that they could pass up someone like him,” Lollar said. “Those guys (like Frankamp) don’t come around but every 20, 30, maybe 40 years.”
