Stephene Moore will head regional Health and Human Services office

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has appointed Stephene Moore as the department’s Region 7 director.

Moore, of Lenexa, is a registered nurse and has worked as a senior adviser at HHS for the past year.

She is married to former congressman Dennis Moore. In 2010, she lost a race to replace her husband in Congress.

“We are excited for her to bring her passion for health and prevention to our team of regional directors,” Sebelius, a former Kansas governor, said in a statement.

Region 7 covers Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska.

The department oversees Medicare and several other federal programs, as well as much of the implementation of health care reform in the Affordable Care Act.
