Anthony Garcia, 23, of Knob Noster shot his wife, Danielle R. Garcia, 24, at first reporting the incident as a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head, authorities said. He was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action Saturday afternoon.

Johnson County sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 1:11 a.m. Saturday to 17 S.E. 971 Road in Knob Noster. Deputies found Danielle on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Johnson County Coroner C.L. Holdren at 2:15 a.m.

Sheriff Chuck Heiss said Monday that officers were called to the scene by the victim's parents who live across the street from the couple. Heiss did not offer a motive in the shooting and declined to discuss how investigators determined the injury was not self-inflicted.

A Taurus .38-caliber revolver was located at the scene.

Anthony was booked into the Johnson County Jail and remains in custody on a $250,000 bond. Investigation into the case continues.
