Shares in O’Reilly Automotive received quite a turbo charge Thursday, climbing more than 8 percent following the release of record earnings the previous day.

The Springfield-based auto parts retailer closed at $100.04, up $7.45. The company released its fourth quarter and full-year earnings late Wednesday afternoon.

In addition, YRC Worldwide finished Thursday with a gain of 2.2 percent. The Overland Park-based trucker releases earnings Friday.

Sprint closed down 3 cents to $5.74 following the release of its financial report.

Of the stocks that closed lower, Kansas City Life fell 1.2 percent and Inergy L.P. dropped 1.3 percent.

Overall, the stock market closed lower, and the rally which has pushed indexes close to record levels stalled.

Stocks fell as weaker earnings and worries about Europe overshadowed healthier signs for the U.S. economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 42 points to 13,944 Thursday, after falling as much as 134 points earlier. The index has traded largely sideways this week, after logging its best January in almost two decades.

The Standard and Poor’s 500 fell 3 points to 1,509 and the Nasdaq composite also dropped 3 points, to 3,165.

The BATS 1000 fell 31.44 points, or 0.18 percent, to close at 17,063.21.

Capitol Federal Financial rose 1 cents, or 0.09%, to close at $11.72.

Cerner Corp. rose $1.10, or 1.29%, to close at $86.56.

Commerce Bancshares Inc. rose 28 cents, or 0.74%, to close at $38.26.

Compass Minerals rose $1.06, or 1.46%, to close at $73.86.

DST Systems Inc. rose 21 cents, or 0.31%, to close at $66.96.

Ferrellgas Partners L.P. fell 22 cents, or 1.12%, to close at $19.35.

Garmin Ltd. rose 21 cents, or 0.55%, to close at $38.16.

Great Plains Energy rose 16 cents, or 0.75%, to close at $21.63.

H&R Block Inc. rose 9 cents, or 0.38%, to close at $24.09.

Inergy L.P. fell 25 cents, or 1.26%, to close at $19.57.

Kansas City Life Insurance Co. fell 46 cents, or 1.21%, to close at $37.61.

Kansas City Southern rose 41 cents, or 0.43%, to close at $95.20.

Layne Christensen Co. fell 3 cents, or 0.13%, to close at $22.26.

O'Reilly Automotive Inc. rose $7.45, or 8.05%, to close at $100.04.

Sprint Nextel Corp. fell 3 cents, or 0.52%, to close at $5.74.

UMB Financial Corp. rose 56 cents, or 1.28%, to close at $44.30.

Waddell & Reed Financial Corp. fell 16 cents, or 0.39%, to close at $40.39.

YRC Worldwide Inc. rose 14 cents, or 2.23%, to close at $6.43.
