Auburn at No. 17 Missouri
University of Missouri
MU-Auburn basketball preview
February 1
• WHEN/WHERE: 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia
• TV/RADIO: KSMO (Ch. 62); KMBZ (980 AM, 98.1 FM)
• ABOUT AUBURN (8-12, 2-5 SEC): The Auburn Tigers have lost five straight. But eight of their 12 losses this season were one-possession games in the last two minutes of regulation; and seven of the eight were one-possession games in the last minute. … Auburn is led by guard Frankie Sullivan, who ranks third in the SEC with 16.8 points per game, while senior center Rob Chubb is a low-post presence.
• ABOUT MISSOURI (15-5, 4-3 SEC): The Tigers are coming off a disappointing 73-70 loss at LSU in which their offense failed to execute in a hostile environment. … Missouri is 0-4 on the road, including 0-3 in the SEC, and once again struggled with shot selection and defensive intensity. … One positive was the return of senior forward Laurence Bowers, who had 10 points and six rebounds after missing five games because of a sprained right knee ligament.
• BOTTOM LINE: Missouri is undefeated at home this year, and figures to get bounce-back performances from senior forward Alex Oriakhi and junior guard Earnest Ross, who struggled against LSU on Wednesday. Ross, who transferred to Missouri from Auburn, also figures to be amped up in his first game against his old team. That should prove to be enough to get Missouri a victory.
