No. 18 Kansas State at Oklahoma
Kansas State University
K-State-Oklahoma basketball preview
February 1
• WHEN/WHERE: 5 p.m. Saturday at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla.
• TV/RADIO: ESPN2; WHB (810 AM)
• ABOUT KANSAS STATE (16-4, 5-2 Big 12): The Wildcats will try to sweep their season series with Oklahoma a year after the Sooners won both games against K-State. … One key will be defending inbounds plays. The Sooners have had success against the Wildcats lately. “We talked about that a lot,” McGruder said. “We watched it on film. They had two dunks on the same play. It’s something we messed up on.” … Will Spradling suffered a broken nose against Texas, but will not wear a protective mask against Oklahoma. Team trainers told him his nose will need treatment if he takes hard contact with or without a mask. … Jordan Henriquez replaced Thomas Gipson in the starting lineup last time out and both players played well. Expect that to continue Saturday.
• ABOUT OKLAHOMA (14-5, 5-2 Big 12): The Sooners are coming off a victory at Baylor that moved them back into a tie for second place in the Big 12 standings with K-State and the Bears. … Oklahoma lost to the Wildcats two weeks ago at Bramlage Coliseum 69-60. … Romero Osby has been Oklahoma’s most consistent player, but Steven Pledger is capable of leading the team in scoring. … Buddy Hield is from Wichita’s Sunrise Christian Academy, a school that has a traveling prep academy-style program. … Oklahoma has won five straight at home. … Lon Kruger is 0-2 against Bruce Weber.
• BOTTOM LINE: Teams that win on the road usually finish near the top of the conference standings. A win at Oklahoma would give K-State the inside track to second place in the Big 12.
