A Blue Springs man pleaded guilty Friday to a felony charge of abandoning a corpse.

Lance Gross, 53, waived his right to a jury trial before Jackson County Circuit Judge Michael Manners.

Manners scheduled an April 26 sentencing hearing at the Jackson County Courthouse Annex in Independence.

Jackson County authorities charged Gross about a year ago after he led police to the body of Peggie Perez in a Cass County creek about two miles west of Garden City.

Gross told investigators that he had injected Perez, 48, of Blue Springs, with Valium on Jan. 20, 2012, while they were having sex and also used a dog collar to choke her, according to court records. During the incident, the woman lost consciousness and never woke up, according to records.

Gross allegedly left the body in his home for three days before he and another man took it to Cass County.

Marlin Gross, a brother of Lance Gross, also had been charged with abandonment of a corpse.

In October, the court placed Marlin Gross on three years of supervised probation.
