Former NFL cornerback Al Harris has joined the Chiefs as an assistant secondary coach. Harris has ties to both new Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey, having played most of his 15-year career with either the Eagles or the Packers. Harris also played for the Dolphins and Rams.

He will assist Emmitt Thomas in coaching the defensive backs.
The Chiefs also hired Mark DeLeone as a quality control coach. He held the same position last year for the New York Jets.
Assistant strength and conditioning coach Brent Salazar will be retained from the staff of former head coach Romeo Crennel. Salazar has been with the Chiefs for the past six seasons, initially joining them when Herm Edwards was the head coach.
• The Chiefs also announced the signing of 6-foot-1, 213-pound wide receiver Tyler Shoemaker, who played in college at Boise State. He signed last year with Tampa Bay as a rookie free agent but was released before training camp.
Shoemaker caught 122 passes in his four seasons at Boise State. As a senior in 2011, he caught 62 passes and scored 16 touchdowns.
