• WHEN/WHERE: 6 p.m. tonight at Mizzou Arena
• TV/RADIO: ESPNU; KMBZ (980 AM, 98.1 FM)
• ABOUT MISSOURI (13-4, 2-2 SEC): The Tigers are coming off their worst loss in five years statistically, an 83-52 road defeat against Florida that the Gators dominated from start to finish. Missouri again struggled offensively without leading scorer Laurence Bowers, as only two players scored in double figures. Worse yet, the already banged-up Tigers had senior guard Keion Bell go down with an ankle sprain, and junior guard Earnest Ross could only play nine minutes because of a back problem. Both are questionable for tonight’s game against South Carolina.
• ABOUT SOUTH CAROLINA (11-6, 1-3 SEC): Former Kansas State coach Frank Martin likes to build his teams around defense and toughness, and he’s currently working on crafting the Gamecocks to his liking. South Carolina, which has lost three of its last four games, is led offensively by junior guard Bruce Ellington (10.3 ppg), freshman forward Michael Carrera (10.2 ppg) and senior forward Lakeem Jackson (9.6 ppg).
• BOTTOM LINE: Missouri is banged up and wounded after an embarrassing loss at Florida, but the Tigers — like most college teams — tend to play much better at home, where their role players feel more comfortable and seem to jell much better. With Bowers out again and Bell and Ross questionable, freshmen Ryan Rosburg, Negus Webster-Chan and Stefan Jankovic will need to step up. The Tigers will also need to show more mental toughness against a Frank Martin-coached team than they did at Florida.
