MANHATTAN, Kan. — After helping the Kansas State football team for two years as a graduate assistant, Blake Seiler is now a full-fledged member of the Wildcats’ coaching staff.

Seiler was promoted to defensive ends coach on Friday. He will take over the responsibilities left behind by Joe Bob Clements, who accepted a similar job at Oklahoma State on Sunday.
Seiler, who played at K-State from 2004-06, is the youngest member of the staff, but he brings experience to his position as a former defensive end. For the past two years he assisted coach Bill Snyder by breaking down game film and tutoring members of the scout team.
“As a student-athlete and a graduate assistant in our program, Blake has epitomized the values represented by our 16 goals in a major way,” Snyder said in a statement released by K-State. “He is a quality individual that excelled on the field at the position he is going to coach and has been vital to our game-to-game preparation these past two years. He is highly respected by our players.”
Seiler’s biggest challenge will come on the recruiting trail, where he is untested. He will likely take on an important role in that area with the program’s top two recruiters, Clements and former receivers coach Michael Smith, who both left K-State this week.
As a player, Seiler was a former walk-on who transferred to K-State after originally attending Oklahoma State as a wrestler. He is from Goddard and played at Bishop Carroll High, and he had moderate on-field success with the Wildcats, making 21 tackles as a senior, while earning first team academic All-Big 12 honors three times.
“After spending eight years at K-State as a player and graduate assistant, I am very appreciative that Coach Snyder has granted me the opportunity to join his staff as a full-time assistant coach,” Seiler said in a statement. “It is an honor and a privilege to work at my alma mater, and I look forward to continuing to work with an outstanding group of coaches.”
