Kansas coach Charlie Weis announced that current assistant Clint Bowen would assume Cross’s position as linebackers coach. Bowen, a former KU player and assistant under Mark Mangino, returned to KU last season while coaching special teams and defensive backs.
Cross, a Missouri graduate, came to KU last January after spending one season as the as special teams coordinator and safeties coach at Wisconsin. Cross had also spent five seasons in various roles with the Buffalo Bills after working at Iowa State from 2001-05.
Cross’s departure leaves one opening on the staff. Weis said in December that he expected his staff to remain intact after his first season at Kansas.
