8-year-old Douglas County girl drowns in bathtub

An 8-year-old Kansas girl apparently drowned in a bathtub Thursday evening in what authorities believe was an accident.

Douglas County Sheriff deputies responded to a medical emergency shortly before 10 p.m. in the 200 block of East 2300 Road, east of Baldwin City in southeast Douglas County.

Brittney Nichole Kennon, who had been found unconscious in a bathroom, apparently drowned while bathing. Brittney, who had a history of health problems, lived with her grandparents, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

A neighbor and emergency workers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation but Brittney was pronounced dead at a Lawrence hospital.
