The Chiefs have been mostly lifeless in the kicking game, so in hopes of significant improvement coach Andy Reid hired Dave Toub, who has a reputation as one of the better special teams coaches in the league.

Reid also filled most of the other remaining holes on his coaching staff. He retained two coaches off the Romeo Crennels staff. Gary Gibbs will continue to coach the linebackers and Emmitt Thomas will again coach the defensive backs.
The remaining coaching gap is on the offensive line. Reid initially wanted George Warhop, but he instead will remain with the Cleveland Browns. Former Miami head coach and Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano interviewed for the job this week.
The Chiefs did hire Eugene Chung as assistant offensive line coach.
Toub, 50, coached special teams for the Eagles for three seasons for Reid in the early 2000s before moving on to Chicago, where he coached special teams for the Bears for the past nine seasons.
Bears special teams players were awarded eight Pro Bowl berths during Toubs time in Chicago. The Bears also led the NFL in kickoff and punt return yardage and kick return touchdowns over those nine seasons.
The Chiefs havent returned a kick for a touchdown since Dexter McCluster scored on a punt return in the 2010 season opener against San Diego.
Toub and Reid previously coached together in college at Texas-El Paso and Missouri.
Dave is one of the leagues best special teams minds, Reid said in a statement released by the Chiefs. I have spent time with him at a number of different coaching stops and I feel he will bring an innovative approach and consistency to this group. Dave will get the most out of our players and Im very happy he is joining our staff.
Gibbs and Thomas joined the Chiefs while Todd Haley was the head coach, Gibbs in 2009 and Thomas the following season. Thomas played 13 seasons as a cornerback for the Chiefs and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
Chung was an assistant offensive line coach for Reid and the Eagles the past three seasons. He previously played offensive line for five NFL seasons with the Patriots, Jaguars and Colts.
