Downed Independence power lines delay train

Updated: 2013-01-10T20:49:20Z

A car collided with a utility pole in eastern Independence Thursday afternoon, causing power lines to hang low over nearby railroad tracks and delay a train.

Workers with Independence Power & Light were replacing the pole at about 2 p.m. and were preparing to release the train, said Larry Starr, electric distribution manager with the Independence utility.

The accident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. near 24300 E. Bundschu Road, which is near the intersection of East Bundschu Road and Missouri 7, northwest of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.

There was no word of any injuries, Starr said.
