JOB DESCRIPTION: Interior design consultant and owner of Studio KHS

Q. Tell us about your home.

A. It’s a classic 1950s Southern Colonial. My husband and I always wanted to renovate an older home. We wanted the character of an older home with the amenities of a newer one.

Q. Describe your personal design style.

A. Classic with an eclectic mix of antiques with contemporary art. I like layers of texture and tend to use neutral backgrounds with pops of color. It’s easier to take everything in. My goal is always to create a warm and inviting home.

Q. What’s your favorite room in your home and why?

A. I don’t think I have a favorite. I enjoy every room. It’s all very usable space.

Q. Tell us about your dining room.

A. It has built-in bookshelves, wine racks and a fireplace. The space can be used as a study as well as a charming dining room. It’s the former den of the house.

Q. Tell us about your screened porch.

A. It’s an addition we built when we bought the house 12 years ago. It’s our guests’ favorite room. We entertain there nine months out of the year and host many family dinners. We love being outside in this comfortable, gracious room overlooking our garden. It truly extends our living space.

Q. What’s your next project in your own home?

A. We don’t have one. You hear that when you’re done, it’s time to move. That’s not the case with us. I get to create for other people.

Q. Do you collect anything?

A. I have lots of books, everything from gardening, art, architecture and design. We also collect contemporary art, English botanicals and hunt scenes.

Q. Who are some of the designers you admire most?

A. Victoria Hagan, John Saladino, Suzanne Kasler, Thomas O’Brien, Mariette Himes Gomez, Alexa Hampton. There are so many.

Q. You say accessorizing is one of your favorite aspects of decorating clients’ homes. Why?

A. That’s what gives a house personality and soul. Accessories make a house look less static and project the owners’ individuality. I love the hunt, trying to find just the right thing.

Q. What are your favorite hunting grounds?

A. I like to support local vendors. I often go to 45th and State Line Road to Kincaid’s. I frequent Barbara Cosgrove Lamps, Webster House, Pear Tree and Trapp along with trade showrooms.

Q. On the subject of accessories, how do you like to display family photos?

A. At our house, they’re in silver picture frames on the piano and elsewhere.

Q. How do you accessorize coffee tables?

A. I love using trays to organize books and fresh flowers on coffee tables.

Q. Tell us about some of your current client projects.

A. Currently I’m working on a penthouse renovation at the Walnuts that’s way fun. I’m starting a new build job in Mission Farms, finishing up a great home in Mission Hills that includes Lulu DK fabric in the nursery and a beautiful condo at 433 Ward Parkway.

Q. How did you get into design?

A. After this house was completed, people saw it and started asking me to do their homes. It’s all word of mouth. It’s been a leap of faith and a lot of fun.
