The Wildcats, ranked 25th for a second straight week in the Associated Press poll, completed their nonconference schedule at 11-2 and open Big 12 play at home on Saturday against Oklahoma State.
K-State led from the first basket but watched South Dakota pull within seven points early in the second half. The Wildcats pulled away with 53.6-percent shooting in the half, making 50 percent for the game.
Rodney McGruder had 15 points and nine rebounds, while Shane Southwell had 12 points and Will Spradling 11.
K-State out-rebounded South Dakota 39-24 and had 19 assists to South Dakota’s four.
South Dakota, led by Karim Rowson’s 14 points, made 16 of 49 shots (32.7 percent).
