Authorities have released the names of a man and a woman who died Sunday in a house fire in southeast Kansas City.

They were identified as Jerry J. Latorre, 48, and Amelia L. Maasen, 31, both of Kansas City.

Fire crews called to the 9000 block of Booth Avenue on Sunday afternoon found the ranch-style stone-and-wood-frame house engulfed in flames. They discovered Latorre’s body in the lower level and Maasen’s on the home’s main level.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but no foul play was involved, according to initial police reports.

The police bomb and arson unit continues to investigate. The causes of death have not been determined.

When fire crews arrived, flames and thick smoke were pouring from a finished walkout basement and a first-floor living space. Firefighters quickly got the blaze under control and found the victims. The structure was a total loss.
