Handmade clothing can be chic and exclusive. Some boutiques specialize in creations by local designers.

“We want people to start shopping local,” said Shannon Schultz, co-owner of Sha C’s, a boutique that opened in Olathe earlier this year that sells handcrafted fashions and accessories. “We try to support local women who are running their own businesses, too.”

Some of the items Schultz and co-owner Cyndi True carry include clothing made of deconstructed, vintage shirts by Kendra Allen of Lenexa labeled Prettee Girl by K. Elle A. Designs and colorful scarves created by Dona Bela Shreds, which is run by a woman in Iowa.

Style it:

Put together your outfit with emphasis on showing off your special, handmade piece. Your rare finds are often matchless.
