Denim doesn’t have to be boring and blue. Jeans in every hue were a hit this summer, along with trendy floral and polka dot prints. Now designers are darkening up denim for the winter months with metallic details, animal prints and sleek leather-like coatings.

“Women need to treat this trend more as a neutral instead of over-thinking it,” said Alysa Rene, owner of Alysa Rene Boutique in Lenexa. “These are an inexpensive addition to your wardrobe to freshen it up with staples you most likely already have.”

Rene said that a chic pair of patterned or colored jeans could cost less than $100. She recommends pairing them with a chambray shirt and comfy boots during the day and with something a smidge more sparkly for night.
