His family is allowing his organs to be donated, police said.
Saturdays shooting in the 2400 block of Denver Avenue marked the second time the boy had been involved in a shooting in Kansas City. He was inside a house in the 2400 block of Oakley Avenue last year when a gunman fired four shotgun blasts at it in the middle of the night, breaking the front window and damaging a car. No one was hurt, according to the police report.
Aydan Perea was with his father and two other men in a vehicle parked in a driveway Saturday when a 1984 tan-over-white Chevrolet Monte Carlo stopped in the street behind the parked vehicle. An occupant of the Monte Carlo fired at the vehicle, hitting the driver and mortally wounding Aydan, who was in his car seat in the back seat.
Police later found the Monte Carlo, abandoned. The cars owner claimed the car had been parked at his home all night, police said.
Detectives are looking for anyone who may have seen the Monte Carlo Saturday night before or after the 8:50 p.m. shooting. Detectives said the shooting appeared to stem from the fact that the victims and the assailant and other occupants of the Monte Carlo were associated with rival gangs.
By Tuesday, police had not received a single tip about the shooting.
Thats ridiculous, said Sgt. Barb Eckert, who is supervising the investigation. Someone has to know something.
In last years shooting, Aydan also was with his father. They were inside asleep. After that incident, witnesses said the father was not involved in gang activity, but some of his relatives were. The witnesses thought last years shooting on Oakley was retaliation for a previous shooting that killed a rival gang member.
