First half

Key play: With K-State down 25-18 with just over 4 minutes left in the half, Rodney McGruder knocked down a three-pointer that started a K-State 9-4 run to end the half.

Key stat: The Wildcats shot only 31.6 percent in the half.

Second half

Key play: With 1:46 left, Angel Rodriguez was fouled on a three-point shot. He made all three free throws extending K-State’s lead to 61-57.

Key stat: Rodriguez scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half.

McGruder a hit at home

Senior guard and Washington, D.C. native Rodney McGruder’s double-double was his first of the season and fifth of his career. McGruder finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but only scored three points in the second half.

• Forward Thomas Gipson’s 12 rebounds put him one short of his career-high of 13 rebounds, which he set against George Washington last season. Gipson played 31 minutes on Saturday in the post while senior center Jordan Henriquez played just 16 minutes after not seeing the floor in the Wildcats’ last game, a win over South Carolina-Upstate.

Will Spradling sank two three-pointers and scored 10 points. He made two late free throws and is now a perfect 14 of 14 on the season.
