— Kansas senior guard Travis Releford earned Big 12 player-of-the-week honors on Monday after averaging 20 points per game while helping the Jayhawks to a title at the CBE Classic in Kansas City.

Releford, a graduate of Bishop Miege, shot 65 percent from the field in two games while breaking out of an early-season shooting slump. After making just six of 23 field-goal attempts in three games, Releford made his first six shots while scoring 17 points against Washington State last Monday. He followed that up with 23 points against Saint Louis in the championship game on Tuesday. The Jayhawks play San Jose State on Monday night.

Releford, who is averaging 11.8 points per game, was chosen MVP of the CBE Classic. It’s the second career Big 12 honor for Releford, who scored 8.9 points per game last season as a junior starter.

Oklahoma junior Amath M'Baye, a transfer from Wyoming, was chosen the Big 12 rookie of the week.
