ABOUT SAN JOSE STATE (2-2): Senior guard James Kinney, a native of Champaign, Ill., will pose the biggest offensive threat. He’s averaging 21.0 points and 6.5 rebounds after leading the Spartans in scoring last season. A member of the Western Athletic Conference, San Jose State opened the season with losses to New Orleans and Houston before notching wins against Weber State and UC Santa Cruz.

ABOUT KANSAS (4-1): Bill Self says he’d still like his team to play faster. The Jayhawks are averaging 71.6 points after five games, and Self even employed some full-court pressure during KU’s two victories last week at the CBE Classic. The Jayhawks’ five-day break for Thanksgiving gave Self some time to install some more pieces of the offense. San Jose State may flash some zone looks, and KU will likely be more prepared. Senior guard Elijah Johnson, meanwhile, is still learning how to run the team and look for his own offense, but he’s averaging a team-high four assists per game.

BOTTOM LINE: Kansas will play five home games — including another stop at the Sprint Center — in the next 31/2f weeks as the first semester winds down. The Jayhawks may need to work off some Thanksgiving break rust tonight. But this next stretch will be key for KU’s development.
