LAWRENCE — If recruiting were judged in poker terms, Kansas coach Bill Self amassed something close to a full house this week.

Self and KU officially added the fourth and fifth members to their 2013 recruiting class on Friday, signing guards Wayne Selden and Frank Mason.
Selden, a Boston native playing at The Tilton School in New Hampshire, and Mason, 5-11 point guard at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va., join a class that also includes Wichita guard Conner Frankamp, Georgia swingman Brannen Greene and center Joel Embiid of The Rock School in Gainesville, Fla.
All signs point to more recruiting from Self and his staff in the comings months. In other words, they’re likely not done. But on Friday, Self took the time to gush over his latest two signees.
Selden is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound guard who is ranked as the No. 26 overall player in the country, according to Rivals.com. Initially a member of the 2013 class, Selden had reclassified to 2014 before moving back up to his original class at Tilton earlier this year.
“Wayne is one of the most powerful wings in high school basketball,” Self said. “He’s got a great frame. He’s explosive. He can play the two or three and maybe even play some emergency point. He’s big enough to post and defend the four if we decide to go small, and he can make shots.”
Mason, ranked 134th nationally by Rivals, fills a position of need: point guard. After originally committing to Towson, academic issues forced Mason to take a post-grad year and reclassify into the 2013 class. Self called Mason a “jet” who could break down defenders off the dribble in a similar way to that of former KU star Sherron Collins.
“Frank is one of the best kept secrets in high school basketball,” Self said. “I really believe even though his high school ranking is not much; he’s a guy that is as good as any guard out there.”
• In other recruiting news, Tyler Roberson, a four-star prospect from New Jersey, reportedly committed to Syracuse on Friday. Roberson took a visit to KU last month.
