The Royals confirmed four minor-league signings Friday afternoon – three pitchers and an infielder, Brandon Wood, once regarded as a top prospect in the Los Angeles Angels’ system.

Wood, 27, spent last season at Class AAA Colorado Springs in the Colorado system, where be batted .259 with 10 homers and 64 RBIs in 119 games. He was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 3 overall prospect before the 2006 season.

The Royals also signed left-hander Atahualpa Severino and right-handers Brian Sanches and Anthony Ortega. Sanches pitched in the Royals’ system from 1999 to 2003 before departing in a trade to San Diego.

Club officials have now confirmed 12 minor-league signings.

Wood was the Angels’ first-round pick in the 2003 draft but has yet to show his minor-league success in numerous big-league opportunities – batting.186 in 700 at-bats with 18 homers and 64 RBIs over 272 games in parts of five seasons from 2007-11.

Ortega, 27, is also a former Angels’ prospect who was 26-31 with a 4.41 ERA in 119 minor-league games, including 82 starts, before undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing the 2012 season. He now is pitching in the Venezuelan Winter League.

Severino, 28, spent the last seven years in the Washington system and was 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA and three saves last season in 46 relief appearances for Class AAA Syracuse. He pitched in six big-league games in 2011.

The Royals selected Sanches, 34, in the second round of the 1999 draft before sending him to the Padres on Aug. 26, 2003 for outfielder Rondell White.

Sanches made 195 big-league appearances over the last seven seasons with Philadelphia, Washington and Florida while compiling a 13-7 record and 3.75 ERA. He spent most of last season in the minors for the Phillies and Houston.

The Royals previously confirmed minor-league deals with catchers Manny Piña and Max Ramirez, first basemen Matt Fields and Ian Gac, outfielders Luis Durango and Nick Van Stratten and pitchers Juan Gutierrez and Devon Lowery.
