High school football players of the week (Nov. 16)

Missouri:Darrius Shepherd

• SCHOOL: Blue Springs

• YEAR: Junior

In a Class 6 quarterfinal against Rockhurst that lacked offensive highlights, Darrius Shepherd came away with two of them. Shepherd burned the Hawklets’ secondary for a 58-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter and then returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. Blue Springs won 14-11 and travels to De Smet for the Class 6 semifinals tonight.

Kansas: Andrew Ballock

• SCHOOL: Eudora

• YEAR: Junior

The lanky quarterback averaged 8.3 yards per carry in helping the Cardinals power past Louisburg 19-0 in last week’s Kansas 4A quarterfinals. He finished with 18 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown, topping 1,000 yards rushing for the season along the way. Ballock, who also starts at safety, recorded six tackles (five solo) as well.
