ABOUT LAMAR (0-0): Former Texas Tech coach Pat Knight is in his second season at Lamar and led the Cardinals, who play in the Southland Conference, to the NCAA Tournament in his first season. The Cardinals won both of their exhibition games, 74-66 over McMurry and 87-76 over Northwood. Lamar plays its first 11 games on the road, including games at Alabama, Purdue and Baylor. Kansas State and Lamar last met in 1991 in Beaumont, Texas, in a 119-75 win by Lamar.
ABOUT KANSAS STATE (1-0): Preseason All-Big selection Rodney McGruder had a rough game offensively in Fridays season-opening win over North Dakota, hitting just three of 12 shots for six points. K-State assistant coach Alvin Brooks III has Lamar ties. His father, Alvin Brooks II, was the point guard on Lamars 1980 Sweet 16 team and still holds the school record with 6.9 assists per game. K-State coach Bruce Weber started Nino Williams against North Dakota because of smaller matchups, but Adrian Diaz started the Wildcats two exhibition victories.
