<span class="subhead">Big 12</span></p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">RISING:</span> Texas didn&#x92;t just come out in the wishbone, as Mack Brown promised as a tribute to Darrell Royal, the Longhorns ran a little trickeration &#x97; a pitch-back reverse pass that that went for a 47 yard gain, and the Longhorns were on their way to a 33-7 victory over Iowa State. Texas has won four straight after its two-game losing streak at midseason.</p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">FALLING: </span>Kansas is getting closer. The Jayhawks chipped away and forced overtime at Texas Tech. KU played to its strength, the ground game, with 390 yards but fell 41- 34 in two overtimes. Tony Pierson rushed for 202 yards and James Sims 127 &#x97; his school record sixth-straight 100-yard rushing game &#x97; but it wasn&#x92;t enough to prevent the Jayhawks&#x92; 19th straight Big 12 loss.</p><p><span class="subhead">Southeastern</span></p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">RISING:</span> Is Georgia the new SEC favorite? The Bulldogs clinched a spot in the conference championship game by smacking Auburn 38-0. Freshman tailbacks Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall surpassed 100 yards each and both averaged more than 10 yards per carry. Georgia will take on the West winner, which will be Alabama if the Crimson Tide defeats Auburn on Nov. 24.</p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">FALLING:</span> Tennessee fell victim to Missouri&#x92;s remarkable comeback &#x97; 44 points after halftime in a 51-48 Mizzou triumph &#x97; and Vols coach Derek Dooley&#x92;s seat got hotter. His teams have lost 13 of their last 14 conference games and remain winless in SEC play this year. And this with a good quarterback in Tyler Bray.</p><p><span class="subhead">Big Ten</span></p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">RISING: </span>One week after rushing for 19 yards against Michigan State, Wisconsin rolled to a school-record 564 yards against Indiana. Montee Ball picked up 198 and three touchdowns. One more and he&#x92;ll match the NCAA record for career rushing touchdowns with 78.</p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">FALLING:</span> Texas A&M had been the poster team for surrendering large leads, until Saturday&#x92;s incredible win over Alabama. Northwestern is now that team. The Wildcats have gagged up double-digit second-half leads in all three of its Big Ten losses &#x97; to Penn State, Nebraska and Michigan. The Wolverines trailed 24-14 in the third quarter, but won 38-31 in overtime.</p><p><span class="subhead">Pac-12</span></p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">RISING: </span>Arizona running back Ka&#x92;Deem Carey ran wild against lowly Colorado. Carey&#x92;s 366 rushing yards set a Pac-12 record, and he scored five touchdowns in the Wildcats&#x92; 56-31 victory. The Buffaloes got hammered despite owning a possession-time advantage of 41:48 to 18:12.</p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">FALLING: </span>California played Oregon tough, for a while. But quarterback Marcus Mariota became the Ducks&#x92; Heisman-candidate-of-the-week. He threw six touchdown passes in a 59-17 victory. The Golden Bears trailed only 24-17 in the third quarter, but Boseko Lokombo intercepted a screen pass and the Ducks&#x92; onslaught was on.</p><p><span class="subhead">Atlantic Coast</span></p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">RISING:</span> Duke. The Blue Devils didn&#x92;t play, mind you. But they&#x92;re the only team that doesn&#x92;t need help to win the Coastal Division. That came about on a day when several favorites lost to create a situation where four teams &#x97; Duke, Miami, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech &#x97; are all part of the chase. </p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">FALLING:</span> Good thing North Carolina had an extra week to get ready for Georgia Tech&#x92;s triple option. The Yellow Jackets won 68-50.</p><p><span class="subhead">Big East</span></p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">RISING: </span>Syracuse did it again. A year ago the Orange took out favored West Virginia in the dome. This time, it was undefeated Louisville in a 45-26 smackdown. Jerome Smith had his fourth straight 100-yard rushing day (144 against the Cardinals), and now Syracuse is one victory away from becoming bowl eligible. Next stop: at Missouri.</p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">FALLING:</span> This time, Pittsburgh flubbed the first half. A week earlier, they gave up a late 14-point lead in a loss to Notre Dame. On Friday, the Panthers fell behind Connecticut 24-0 at halftime and couldn&#x92;t complete the comeback in a 24-17 loss.</p><p><span class="subhead">Others</span></p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">RISING:</span> Massachusetts won&#x92;t take a goose egg for the season. The Minutemen won their first game as a Division I-A program, 22-14 at Akron, and special teams came up big with a blocked punt, three field goals and three punts in the fourth quarter downed inside the 5.</p><p>&bull;&#xA0; <span class="bold">FALLING: </span>Louisiana-Monroe, the early-season darling, lost its second straight game and fell out of first place in the Sun Belt. Arkansas State took over the league lead with a 45-23 victory at Monroe.
