Shooting victim is Kansas City’s latest domestic violence homicide

Updated: 2012-11-06T01:31:06Z

Kansas City police on Monday identified a man fatally shot in an apparent domestic dispute Sunday night as Anthony R. Medellin, 28, of Kansas City.

Officers were called to an apartment complex in the 4300 block of Northern Avenue at 10:07 p.m., but could not contact the person who dialed 911. They couldn’t find a crime scene and neighbors said they didn’t hear any gunfire, so officers left.

About 15 minutes later, someone called police again to report a shooting at the same address. This time, the caller reported her boyfriend had been shot in a domestic dispute.

Police found Medellin inside the third-floor apartment he shared with the girlfriend. Police detained the girlfriend, but she suffered a medical problem and was taken to a hospital under police guard.

Medellin was supposed to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court on Monday for a preliminary hearing on a drug-trafficking charge. He was already on probation for a 2011 conviction for drug trafficking, according to online court records.
