The organization also is sponsoring TV ad buys in several other states, including the competitive Senate races in Ohio and Montana.
“Now or Never PAC is committed to helping the Republican Party recapture the U.S. Senate,” said spokesman Tyler Harber.
The $800,000 buy represents the single largest on Akin’s behalf since the August primary. He faces incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill in Tuesday’s election.
Harber declined to identify members of the group, and current law does not require disclosure of its members. Harber said the group is compromised of 10 members who are businessmen or political operatives who work both in Washington and Missouri.
Also Wednesday, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced that it was making a $515,000 buy on McCaskill’s behalf.
Since the primary, outside groups have spent $5.8 million to boost McCaskill’s campaign, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics, which analyzes such spending. Prior to Wednesday, outside groups had spent $1.5 million on Akin’s behalf.
Now or Never backed Republican Sarah Steelman over Akin in the Missouri Senatorial primary.
“Todd Akin may have not been our first choice for Republican nominee in the race to replace Claire McCaskill,” Harber said. “But Congressman Akin plays an important role in securing the Senate chamber.”
Harber said he didn’t know if any of the group’s ads would run in Kansas City.
