Clearly, the Royals playoff drought can be blamed on one thing: Jeremy Affeldt didn't become a father while in Kansas City.
Affeldt's wife Larisa gave birth to the couple's third son back on Aug. 28. Given Colt Affeldt's arrival in the world, it should be no surprise that the Giants are in the World Series.
This marks the third time Affeldt's team has advanced to the World Series just a few months after Larisa gave birth.
Son No. 1, Walker, was born in August 2007, and Affeldt's Rockies made a stunning run to the World Series.
Logan was born in September of 2010 and Affeldt's Giants won the World Series.
Affeldt, who pitched for the Royals from 2002-06, had a feeling this year might be special for the Giants.
When Larisa was pregnant with Colt, we were kind of in the playoff hunt, Affeldt told the San Francisco Chronicle. When she gave birth to him she said, 'If we go to the World Series, it will be awesome.' When we got there I said, 'Honey, we gotta put you on the payroll.' I'm actually starting to believe this baby thing is key (to a World Series trip).
The Giants will go for the World Series sweep today against the Tigers.
While Affeldt is obviously not to blame for the Royals having not made the playoffs since 1985, you can read more about what he is doing these days here.
